"Talent + Effort = Success"

Kerstin is an 11-year-old friendly and playful kid. She has an 8-year-old sister named Melanie and a little dog named Luna. She was an early self-taught reader, started reading at a 1st grade level before the age of 4. She has a great memory that has helped her learn spelling words, but she doesn’t only memorize them, she likes to understand the meaning and other information about the words. This year after she won the school spelling bee, she worked hard studying the words of the champions by using the phone app and the Merriam Webster’s dictionary and was very excited to qualify for the Nationals this year, but when she didn’t qualify, she wasn’t discouraged at all, as she planned on continuing this fun journey. That is why she was so excited when this opportunity came up and signed up right away. She enjoys swimming, playing with friends, drawing, playing a game called Animal Jam (by National Geographic), but most of all she enjoys being a normal kid, playing with our dog Luna, having playdates with friends, etc. In the past she has practiced Gymnastics and Dance and She is currently deciding what musical instrument she wants to start to learn and practice (leaning towards the flute). One of her near future goals (within a few years) is to make it to the Scripps National Spelling bee, winning would be great, but most of all she wants to live that experience. In school, she is good at all subjects, but her strength has always been language arts, reading comprehension, Spelling, Vocabulary, etc. She is very excited to participate in this Contest and she and her family would love to thank all the sponsors who made it possible!
